Language Barriers

Digital tools on this page support learners that need support for
transitioning to, and acquisition of the English language.

Is English the learner's secondary language?
Is the primary language in the learner's home one other than English?
Does the learner fluently communicate in a language other than English?
Does the learner communicate verbally in English but struggle to read and write?
Does the learner have partial or complete hearing loss?

English Language Learners

English language learners benefit from the reinforcement of vocabulary and concepts through pictures, graphics and video. They also benefit from being able to use technology to express themselves...Technology helps English language learners find a voice, easing the transition to a new language.                                                                          -Supporting English Language Learners Through Technology

Hearing Impaired

Students and parents with partial or full hearing loss can also benefit from technology that helps them be as immersed in the conversation within the setting as those around them without similar impairment.  Many of the tools that benefit English language learners also benefit those with a hearing related disability.
